Tesuque Elementary School

Tesuque Elementary School is a part of the Santa Fe Public School district in a small community outside of Santa Fe, NM. The SKB foundation provides funding to provide an arts program for the school’s students who come from the surrounding rural communities. While the culture of the communities are rich in culture and art, high poverty rates limit student exposure to broader arts knowledge. With the school’s ArtSmart program  the students are exposed to the arts in a variety of mediums, the vocabulary of the arts, local artists, and a local studio. The ArtSmart program consists of 24, one and a half hour art classes, in addition to a visit to the Art Barn Studio. Future activities plan to add field trips to some of the many Santa Fe area museums and renowned art collections.
Classes are taught by professional artists trained to provide instruction consistent with the school’s objectives and curriculum. The program culminates in a school wide program and exhibition of student art for the students, parents, and community.
